Evolving Women and Fashion Trends

Posted By: admin on January 22, 2010 in Accesories - Comments: No Comments »

In the days dating back to the 17th century A.D., it was customary for both the girls and boys to attend dame-schools at an earlier age itself. The young girls were not normally exposed to book learning aspects. Instead, they were taught topics like ‘how to be a good housewife’ and aspects related to that. They were imparted training on matters related to cooking, spinning, weaving and knitting. The stitching works were not only meant for creating clothes meant for domestic purposes but also for commercial establishments like shops. Expert knitting was a well paid job, and would constitute a matter of pride to the creator or the knitter. The girls were taught many types of stitching works including sophisticated and complicated stitches. The herring-bone stitch design was one type of a fashion pattern that was popular among people. Other styles include the fox and the geese knitting patterns.

Initially, these young girls were taught to produce fashion trends by having the initials knit into stockings and mittens. The English alphabets also were knit into stockings and mittens, and some people would even make verses of poetry that used to arouse the curiosity of people. These young girls also learnt fine embroidery work; fashion purses were decorated with fine embroidery work and were sold in the nearby shops. Another trend in fashion came in the form of making paper flowers, and this was known as Papyrotamia. They were also imparted training on how to paint fine art on velvet stuffs. The girls in the country sides also learned the art of quilt piecing and they would make hundreds of difficult and variety designs. They knew how to make bone lace with the help of pillows and bobbins.

In the case of young boys, they were imparted education in, along with other subjects, Latin Grammar also. The Victorian period of 1837-1869 ushered in a new fashion trend aimed at women. The beauty of women was assessed by the curves they had, which enhanced the femininity in them. The well-designed corset that women used to wear during those times helped them create the curves they had wanted. The fashion corset underwent changes in designs and went a step further during the late Victorian period of 1850-1900. Curves on women were shaped up by tightly lacing them into these corsets. The best vital statistics was fixed at 18 inches for the waist, and this became the norm and the latest fashion trend. This particular style was known at that time as the hourglass figure.

Things began to change in the 20th Century A.D. Young women began attending college and university and began to vie with men for various jobs in different fields. The first hurdle they faced was in the area of Company wage structure. Women found it difficult to compete with men because women doing the same work received considerably less amount as wages. The equality or parity for women in all walks of life had still not made its arrival on the scene. Men were considered the superior ones as compared to the female of the species in the professional area also.

Looking Forward to Fashion Trends

Posted By: admin on January 17, 2010 in Fashion - Comments: No Comments »

People wish to be in sync with the latest in trends. They are always looking forward, and there is no looking back. The fashion world is changing rapidly, resulting in revolutionary designs in fashion, huge developments, and people are expecting more from the present as well as the emerging trends. After so many years of being staying dormant with a laid back attitude, the world of fashion has emerged gaining wider acceptance of people from all walks of life. People and fashion gurus appreciate the core values and old traditions and hold them close to their hearts and keep them as a treasure for use by later generations. Designers look back to the past days, searching for particular designs, searching for something significant, to embed them in the present day trends. All these developments have affected the lives, preferences and selections of fashion conscious people and they have repositioned themselves in one way or the other.

Nowadays, old fashion is back in vogue and it is a waste of time to look for an equilibrium point in the wavering world of fashion. Here, people take inspiration from history. The fashion industry is flooded with look-alikes which are a means of empowerment for a few designers. It is time to ponder over the current situation. Sometimes the fashion industry will take a pause instead of moving ahead and creating new trends and innovative fashion designs. Then it may dive deeper into the past fashion world and bring out a contemporary version from the trends that existed during those times. On the lines of politics, ideology and values, the changes in style are obvious in fashion trends and industry too. The fashion connoisseurs of Europe value and re-organize the past treasures. They delve deeper into the European clothing fashions that existed during that time. Then, they produce great designs that have excellent pieces of embroideries and laces, imitating the stylish works of their great grand mothers. This way, people and the whole industry are witnessing the coming back of old time fashion as well as retro-trends.

Attractiveness and stylish designs are the keys for a particular piece of clothing to become a trend in fashion. Designers used to draw inspiration from the dresses worn by esteemed members of the aristocracy. But, in the present world of fashion, it is the turn of the so-called high class society. For instance, the sophisticated woman of today now dresses like a queen, or an empress. But the difference is that these people tend to be circumspect in stark contrast to the fashion conscious people of the past. There is change in the preferences and tastes, and the sources of inspiration of these would-be classics are British classics and Masculine weaving classics; all these are embedded with sophistication and elegance and get transformed into feminine fashion styles and the in-things. After a long love affair with extremes in glitter, shine and pattern mixes, these fashionable people are slowly moving towards nature. Nowadays, the original things from the Mother Nature form the alluring part in style.
